capital fund as part of a planned diversification of its investment portfolio,
wished to uncover suitable opportunities in biotechnology, but yet lacked
the necessary technical expertise .
Solution: VCG partner was retained to seek and
evaluate potential biotechnology deals from universities within the state
of Connecticut, and advise the client regarding possible investment.
Offices of Technology Transfer were primary sources of proprietary technology.
Activities included identification of licensable technologies
and matching with market needs. A targeting technology for molecular
biology therapeutics was uncovered which provided a unique method for drug
delivery - gene/receptor conjugates. A business plan was prepared
and ultimately the project received $800,000 in seed financing.
6. Long Term, Strategic Planning, Commercial Feasibility Study Situation: A young emerging biotechnology
company sought business development options that might be utilized
in its efforts to diversify its human diagnostic controls business and help
position it for a future liquidity event.
Solution: The firm was retained to evaluate a veterinary diagnostic controls opportunity and assess its feasibility as a future business unit for the client. VCG conducted primary and secondary market research studies, identified product and service needs and how these might be met with the client's technology, modeled financial and business scenarios, and prepared business development recommendations for the client. 5. University Technology Transfer Situation: Mid-West University Office of Technology
Transfer wished to identify potential licensees of life science
technologies for applications in agriculture. However, without the necessary
expertise and market awareness, progress had been slow.
Solution: VCG partner was hired to search for and identify potential licensees of the university's intellectual property. A list of candidates was prepared, and screened against qualifying criteria for the Office of Technology Transfer to pursue. |
